Bar/Bat Mitzvah

The Bar and Bat Mitzvah ceremony is a time to formally welcome young people as responsible members into our community as part of the Minyan. We celebrate this culmination of several years of Jewish study with the young person's first official aliyah to the Torah, usually held during a Shabbat morning service.

The Bar/Bat Mitzvah is an important Jewish lifecycle event, where we welcome members of our community into adulthood. To learn more about the Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation process please review the links below.

Our Rabbis work closely with our students to help them prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. They also lead a six session learning series annually. This helps Bar/Bat Mitzvah families ready students as they are about to embark on a new journey in their Jewish lives.

Students will participate in a B'nai Mitzvah Project. This special Tikkun Olam project symbolizes our youths' readiness to engage in responsible and meaningful social action. This helps our students understand the significance of tzedakah upon becoming a Jewish adult.

We require membership of at least two years to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah date. To schedule your child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah, please contact Rabbi Lauren Henderson (rabbilauren@or-hadash.org)
